Forgive and Forget
Is it really possible to forgive and forget? Many people believe that the best thing to do is forgive a person and let it go. But can someone just forget something that hurt them? I do not think that it's possible to just forgive and forget.
I do, however, believe that a person can truly forgive a person for whatever it is that they have done. Most likely the individual is not going to just forget about it. If something was that bad that someone has to think about whether or not to forgive someone for it, then they aren't going to forget about that situation. A person may not think about it for a while but it's still going to be in their mind no matter how hard they try to forget. The best thing someone could do is forgive them, or at least try to. Many people claim they have forgotten about it, but in reality they've just chosen not to dwell on it. They will, however, never forget.
The best way to look at this type of situation is to look at it in a certain way. If a person just forgets about the situation who's to say that it wont happen again. Who's to say that they won't do the same thing they did before? People are suppose to learn from their mistakes not forget about them. For an example, if someone is cheated on in a relationship, they can choose to forgive that person. However, even though they forgave them, they will still remember what that person did.
Even though someone decides not to think about what happened, it's going to probably come up later in life. Something is going to trigger that memory. The memory is going to always be there. It would be easier in my opinion to forgive and forget. But it's not possible. Many people want to believe that they can forget what happened, but they know they can't.
In conclusion, I believe it's possible to forgive, but not forget. It's always going to be in the back of their mind. Something can easily trigger that memory. No matter how hard they try to forget it's going to always be there. No one should dwell on a situation from the past; they should learn from it and continue to move on with their life. If an individual continues to dwell on a situation then they aren't doing anything but hurting themselves.
