Bernard Marx

Bernard Marx is a character from Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. He has a
status of an Alpha Plus. He’s different from the others that are Alpha Plus. Bernard and everyone around him knows that he’s different. Bernard was short and the other Alphas are tall. But that’s not the only thing that makes him different from the others. The way Bernard thinks makes him different too. He doesn’t want to be like everyone else. He had Bernard starts one way in the beginning of the story but he changes towards the ending of the story. Once he goes to the reservation and meets John, he starts to change. Bernard brings John back with him. Bringing John back with him makes him more popular than before. He uses John to get to the top where he always wanted to be. Bernard shows that he is a hypocrite. He likes getting attention from people; the same attention that he was once criticizing. Bernard is in love with Leninna at the beginning of the story but eventually he like participating in the same acts as everyone else. He loves the parties, sex, and attention he starts receiving from the other members of the society. They were only showing him attention because of John the Savage. Bernard is eventually exiled to an island because he cannot conform.
